Historical city with an international outlook

Osnabrück is also called the 'city of peace' because it is where the Peace of Westphalia was signed in 1648 at the end of the Thirty Years' War. It is also known for its automotive, paper and steel industries, and there is much more. Despite widespread destruction during WWII, the Old Town was beautifully reconstructed in line with the original medieval architecture. The result is a labyrinth of small streets and historical buildings where visitors can discover something new around every corner. Osnabrück is also an international university town, with more than 22,000 students living in the city. The result is an abundance of restaurants, cafés and other facilities, so there is something for everyone!

Felix Nussbaum Haus and Kalkriese Museum

One of the main sights in Osnabrück is St. Peter's Cathedral, which dates back to the 11th century. The old Bucksturm tower was once part of the city walls. Here, women accused of witchcraft were locked up. In terms of culture, you may want to visit the Felix Nussbaum Haus, with its exhibition dedicated to painter Felix Nussbaum, who died during the Holocaust. Of a different calibre is the Kalkriese Museum on the battlefield of the Teutoburger Wald, where German tribes destroyed three Roman legions. Here you will learn the story of the battle and see artefacts that were found here. Osnabrück's railway station serves as an important travel hub, and its regular connections make getting here easy!
